Friday 11/21 Obj: To do test corrections, notebook test and to diagnose readiness for chapter 5. Do Now, Please: Notebook test. CHW: Finish test corrections, get signed and do page 242 # 1-24.
*Number Families Poster- Find pictures from old magazines or the internet of an old person to represent Real Numbers, a "crazy-looking" or a person who dresses or looks bizarre to represent the Irrational Numbers, an intelligent, "got-it-together" or well dressed person to represent Rational Numbers, a very negative, mean or angry person to represent Integers, a round or very fat person to represent Whole Numbers, and a baby or toddler to represent Counting ( Natural) Numbers. Draw a Family Tree type of diagram with Real Numbers at the top, split into Rationals and Irrationals, with Rationals' "offspring" being Integers, Integers producing Whole Numbers and Whole Numbers producing Counting Numbers. Beside each "branch" of the tree, place the appropriate picture and the definition of the number set. Most of the definitions are in the text book, but we will go over together all the details in class on Tuesday. Try to make your poster unique ( borders, draw in frames, dimensions, colors, shapes, etc.).

Wednesday 11/12 Obj: To find square roots by guess, check, and revise method and to learn the number family names and classifications. Do Now, Please 1-6 page 221. CW: Find square roots of the numbers on the board using the guess, multiply and revise method. CHW: Begin working on Number Families Posters - due Tuesday of next week. Look in old magazines or the internet and find pictures of a baby or little kid, a round or fat person, a person who is very negative looking (mean or angry), a person who appears to be successful and well groomed and sane , a really old person, and a strange, bizarre or crazy- looking person.
Thursday 11/13 Obj; To find areas and lengths using AMSTI materials working in groups of 2-4 students. Do Investigation 2 using dot paper and geoboards to find areas and lengths of sides. Use Labheeet 2.1 CHW: both sides of worksheet 2.1 - on the back draw 4 different "upright" squares and 4 tilted squares and find the areas of each.
Friday 11/14 Obj; To discover the Pythagorean formula using AMSTI materials and working in groups of 2-4 students. Do problem 3.1 - copy and complete chart using dot paper. Do labsheet 3.2 - cut apart the 2 puzzle frames and 11 puzzle pieces and arrange them in the frames and look for a relationship. Homework - finish the chart and see if you can figure out a rule about the squares of the legs and the square of the hypotenuse
