Guntersville Elementary School serves approximately 450 students from kindergarten to second grade.  The school has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1974 and by the Alabama State Department of Education since 1973.  G.E.S. has consistently achieved academic clear status from the State Department of Education.

Our dedicated staff consists of 26 classroom teachers.  We have nine kindergarten units, nine first grade units, and eight second grade units. We have nine other support teachers and 24 other staff members.  These include a full time counselor, a media specialist, two speech pathologist, two special service teachers, language arts teachers, a reading specialist, a physical education teacher, a music teacher, a technology instructor / aide, and numerous support aides who assist with our comprehensive program.

Each day our students attend 35 minutes of physical education.  They attend music and technology once each week for 45 minutes.  Additionally, they are served for 45 additional minutes in language arts twice each week.  The multifunctional media center operates on a flexible schedule allowing students numerous visits each week.  The students also attend library story hours and research lessons during the school year.  Guntersville Elementary School is an Alabama Reading Initiative School, incorporating research based methods and techniques in reading and language arts.

Guntersville Elementary School was awarded National Blue Ribbon School in 1999.  In 2005, it was named a CLAS Banner School for Alabama.  In  2007, it received a Southeastern Best Practices Award by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for innovative health and nutrition initiatives.  Guntersville Elementary was the only school in Alabama to receive this honor across the southeastern United States.

The faculty and staff at Guntersville Elementary School take great pride in our school accomplishments.  We know that without a strong community and parent support, our efforts would not be as successful.  We invite you to visit Guntersville Elementary School to find out more about why we are "a great place to be a kid!"
