Algebra 1A

 Mission

The mission of this class is to build a mathematical foundation for each student to be successful in his/her school and future career of choice.

 

Syllabus

The Algebra 1A course will follow the Alabama State Course of Study. The class will learn chapters 1-6 from the Algebra book and other resources.

 

At least two tests per chapter will be given. Homework will be assigned DAILY!! Testing days for math are Tuesday and Thursday. Pop quizzes can and will be given at any time during the school week.

1st Semester

Algebra Basics – 4 weeks

Properties of #’s – 5 weeks

Linear Equations – 9 weeks

2nd Semester

Linear Equations and Functions – 9 weeks

Graphing Linear Equations and

 Inequalities - 9 weeks

Homework – 50%

Tests – 35%

Quizzes – 15%

 

‘Bell ringers” will be available for you each day. These are worth five points each. At the end of each nine weeks, your bell ringers will be combined for a test grade.

 

Homework is an integral part of your grade. Homework is sometimes graded for effort and when appropriate it will be graded for accuracy.  It is very important to understand that you will not pass my class if you do not do your homework and prepare for tests!

 

Room Rules and Procedures

1.   Be in your assigned seat and working on the “bell ringer” when the tardy bell STARTS to ring!

2.   Be prepared. Bring paper, pencil and any other book(s) needed for class.

3.   NO INKPENS ARE ALLOWED IN MATH CLASS!

4.   Raise your hand for permission to speak or leave your desk.

5.   No food, candy, drinks, etc are allowed in class.

6.   Respect others and yourself!

Passes out of class!

You are allowed 2 passes per nine weeks to leave my room. After you use your two passes, you CANNOT leave my room.  I have 53 minutes to help you learn. I will take all 53. I consider this my time!

 

Extra Credit

There will not be any extra credit given in my class. I can assure success if you do what I ask to the best of your ability. I will do my part and I expect 100% effort from you.
