Dear Students and
Parents,
Welcome to Mrs. White’s Geometry class! I am so excited about getting to
know you. Geometry is a mathematics class dealing with shapes, area,
volume, angle measure, and reasoning skills. It is a class used to
cultivate the logical thinking skills of the students. This course will
consist of lectures, classwork, homework, and projects that
comprehensively discuss topics related to geometry. You can be
successful in geometry and have fun by asking questions and not getting
behind in your work.
I require each
student to bring a 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, calculator, and
pencil to class each day. Each student is assigned a book to keep at
home and a classroom set of books is available for use during class.
Expectations for behavior and procedures for make-up work are outlined
in the syllabus that each student has received.
Geometry
homework is given on a regular basis. Work is assigned out of the book
daily except before tests. A project is assigned each nine weeks.
Occasionally, worksheets are sent home to be completed for review before
tests. Each homework assignment is reviewed in class and collected to be
graded based on effort, not accuracy. Students are asked to circle any
problems that give them trouble so we can cover them together the
following day. Students must show their work to get credit on
homework and tests.
Grades are
determined by the accumulation of points on tests, quizzes, projects,
classwork, and homework. Students must complete homework daily to keep
from falling behind. Students will receive a progress report in the
middle of each 9 week session that shows grades up to that point.
Being available
to answer your questions and being easy to reach is important to me. I
have provided my contact information at the bottom of this page. I can
be reached by phone during my planning period and check e-mail
throughout the day if you have any questions or concerns or would like
to set up a conference. I look forward to an exciting year!
Sincerely,
Kate White
