I.          TEXT

Orsak, et al., Engineering Our Digital Future, 1st Edition.  Prentice Hall, 2004 (Provided).

A textbook will be assigned to students to keep at home for homework.  A classroom textbook will be available at school each day.

II.        COURSE DESCRIPTION

Fundamentals of Engineering is designed to excite students about engineering by making math and science fun using relevant hands-on experiments. Students will learn about the different types of engineering degrees available and improve their technical literacy. The course will include computer labs primarily focused on digital devices, lectures and reading, group discussions on various engineering design activities, speakers from the community, and field trips to local engineering plants and/or firms.

III.       MATERIALS REQUIRED

          3-ring binder with paper

          Pencils

          Thumb drive

IV.       GRADING SYSTEM

Grades are determined on a cumulative point system.  At the end of the nine weeks, the total number of points is divided by the total points possible.  The resulting percentage is the students’ grade for that grading period.  Grades include the following:

(1) computer labs

(2) tests and quizzes

(3) classwork/homework

Each chapter in the book incorporates several computer lab assignments. The tests and quizzes may be from reading, cover math concepts, or require creating a program or instrument on the computer. Classwork/homework will include reading, assignments out of the book, and group work during class.
