UNITED STATES HISTORY II
U.S. HISTORY II IS A REQUIRED YEARLONG COURSE CONCLUDING THE STUDY OF HISTORY FOR STUDENTS IN ALABAMA SCHOOLS. THE ELEVENTH GRADE CURRICULUM IS A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF CRITICAL ISSUES AND EVENTS IN MODERN U.S. HISTORY. DURING THIS COURSE, STUDENTS GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHANGING POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, AND CULTURAL FORCES AT WORK WITHIN THE NATION; OF THE IMPACT OF THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT ON ALL ASPECTS OF LIFE IN AMERICA; AND OF THE ROLE OF AMERICA IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT U.S. HISTORY
ADVANCED PLACEMENT U.S. HISTORY IS A YEAR LONG SURVEY OF AMERICAN HISTORY FROM THE AGE OF EXPLORATION AND DISCOVERY TO THE PRESENT. SOLID READING AND WRITING SKILLS, ALONG WITH A WILLINGNESS TO DEVOTE CONSIDERABLE TIME TO HOMEWORK AND STUDY ARE NECESSARY TO SUCCEED. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON CRITICAL AND EVALUATIVE THINKING SKILLS, ESSAY WRITING, INTERPRETATION OF ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS, AND HISTORIOGRAPHY.

Wed. 9/24 - Objective: Students will describe the changing roles of women,
demographic shifts, rural/urban split, and heroes of the 1920’s.(COS #5)
Input: Students will analyze a map of African American migration from
1890 to 1920 and complete discussion questions. Students will analyze
the differences between pre-WW I fashion and the "flapper" image.
Th. 9/25 - Objective: Same as above.
Input: Students will list modern day "heroes" and compare them to those
of the 1920’s, noting similarities and differences. Also, Ch.13, Sec. 1
Incomplete Outline.
Fri. 9/26 - Objective: Students will be able to describe how the mass media of the
1920’s created common cultural experiences that came to be known as the
Jazz Age.
Input: Using material from Section 2, students will create a web about the impact of mass media, including radio, movies, the Lost Generation,
and the Harlem Renaissance.
