AR Update

Each student is required to read one AR book each nine weeks.  They must chose a book off of the 8th grade literature list that corresponds with their reading level.  Upon finishing the book, each student must take an AR test.  This counts as a grade in English class.  There are multiple copies of this list in the school library and a copy hanging in my room.  You can click on the following link to access the list from this website.

***The cutoff date for the 3rd nine weeks is Friday, March 6th.

Extra Credit

*Students will be able to gain extra credit throughout the nine weeks by getting either tests or planners signed.  Look for these periodically throughout the nine weeks.  Also, students will have the opportunity to gain extra credit by submitting essays to contests that are offered each nine weeks.  This nine weeks the contest I am offering extra credit for is the "Tall Tale" contest sponsored by the Guntersville Public Library.  Students will listen to Ms. Dean, our guest speaker from the library, as she reads an example and explains the contest to them on Thursday, January 15th.  All students will receive a copy of specific directions for contest entry.  This is due to me by Wednesday, January 21st.

*Students have a second opportunity to earn extra credit this nine weeks.  They may complete the annual Civitan essay and receive two points on their nine weeks average.  In order to receive the extra credit, all rules and directions for entry must be followed.  The topic this year is "Recycling- What It Means to the World, to My Community, and to Me."  Each student who is interested received a packet with all the details and directions.  This essay is due to me by Monday, February 23rd.  I will not accept late papers.

Test Date

*There will be a Sentences and Clauses grammar test on Monday, February 9th.  You may use the workbook pages or your daily lessons as a study guide for this test.
