Classroom Information
Reading Please make sure your child is reading at least 30 minutes every night and getting their planner signed by an adult.
In my reading class, I am taking a weekly homework grade based on how many nights my students get their planner signed.
Remember...the only way to be a better reader is to...READ!
My reading students will have Fluency Homework Packets for the weeks of April 27-May 1 and May 4-8. They are to read one passage each night, being timed for one minute. To get more practice, reading each passage several times will aide in increasing their fluency. This packet is due each Friday of that week!
Math Facts test are mixed multiplication and division problems. Practicing with flash cards and Internet websites are a great help in learning facts. I also have multiplication flash cards available for students to take home to practice.
Language We are reviewing language skills and working on writing expository paragraphs.

Drive 2 Fitness
a Fitness Forward program
Cherokee is sponsoring a new program called Drive 2 Fitness- a Fitness Forward program. Drive 2 Fitness educates and rewards fitness and health among youth.
The Drive 2 Fitness promotes that participants aspire to these actions on a daily basis:
Engaging in 1 hour or more of physical activity per day
Limiting daily TV/video game viewing to 1 hour or less
Getting a full night’s rest-- at least 8 hours of sleep in a night for youth, and at least 7 for adults
Not drinking beverages with additional sugar added; (rather, go for water, 1% or less reduced fat milk and occasional low natural sugar 100% fruit drinks instead)
Eating 5-9 fruits and vegetables each day
Research indicates that adoption of these behaviors leads to decreased risk for obesity and disease in the present and future, increased academic achievement, and improved self -esteem.
Students can go to the website daily to keep track of their goals, points, and rewards. www.d2f.org Students have a fitness forward card with their username and password. They can keep track of daily goals on the score card and then transfer to the website. Students will be able to access this website at school and/or at home.
Reminders
Several students have a negative balance on their lunch account.
Please remember to PREPAY lunch money!
