2009 - 2010 Grading Policy
A weekly grade will be taken on class participation as
well as assignments (Memorizing lines or music, tone production, singing
or playing pitch, use of proper singing or playing techniques, etc.).
The director will check students on an individual basis as needed. There
will be a minimum of 6 weekly grades to be averaged together for the 9
weeks.
| Progress Reports |
| |
A student will receive a progress report unless
his or his grade is below a "90" average. |
| |
|
| Performance Requirements |
| |
Performances are MANDATORY. NO EXCEPTIONS. A
missed performance will drop a student's grade by two letter
grades. A doctor's excuse presented to the director no later
than two weeks after the missed performance will make that
student eligible for alternate grading. The alternate grading
will be:
| Choral |
A private hearing of the music or lines from the
missed performance by the director, as well as a ten
paged typed report on a musical topic or composer
assigned by the director. |
| Band |
Playing off all music performed or rehearsed during
absence to the satisfaction of the director(s).
Additional make up work such as ten page typed report on
a musical topic or composer assigned by the director. |
| Musical Theatre |
Every student will have a job for the musical. Any
unnecessary ad-libing, show boating, etc. will result in
a 100 pt. drop for every line, action, etc. changed
during the performance. A cast member could be removed
from during the performance for any of the above
behavior. |
|
| |
|
| |
**The student attempting the
alternate grading procedure will have the possibility of
regaining his or her entire grade.** |
| |
|
| Performance Dates |
| |
Performance dates will be given no less than one
month prior to the event. If a last minute performance does
arise, students will be able to sign up for the performance.
Proper concert etiquette as outlined by the director is part of
the concert grade. A student's signature will put into affect
the grading policy above. |
| |
|
| Unexcused Performances |
| |
If a student has more than two unexcused
performances, after the second missed performance, that student
will not be eligible to participate in rehearsals or
performances for two semesters. That student will pass off all
music performed or rehearsed during time suspended if that
student desires to continue being in the performance ensemble. |
| |
|
| Performance Procedures |
| |
Students will be given a time prior to the
beginning of the performance to prepare for the performance.
Students should print his or her name on the sign in sheet then
the students signature should be placed beside the printed name
prior to that time. Students participating in a performance
group have the responsibility to assist with equipment, loading,
moving, setup and break down. This is 50% of the performance
grade!! Learning how to set the stage and break down the stage
is part of "being in the spotlight!!!!!" |
