Parents' Information
Dear Parents,
Another summer vacation has ended and it is time to get back into the school routine. Guntersville Middle School Science and Math Departments have had a very busy summer. The math and science teachers attended their second year of training in AMSTI and Globe. You may wonder what this means for your child. Speaking strictly for the seventh grade Life Science class, AMSTI is going to change the way your child is going to learn the seventh grade curriculum.
This year, your child will be learning with hands-on group lessons. They will not spend much time using the text book. AMSTI is inquiry based learning and they will be learning and experiencing the complete life cycle of the cabbage white butterfly along with learning about the California Black Worm, Daphnia (water flea), Wisconsin Fast growing plants, the human body, and genetics. I truly believe your child will be coming home excited about science class.
Your child will be keeping a science notebook. This notebook must be brought to class every day. Many of our projects will take place over a long period of time but will be checked on frequently. This science notebook will be used almost daily to record information. Please make sure your child does not leave their notebook at home. If your child is absent they must find time before or after school to come to my room and get the missing data.
I am very excited about teaching your child and using AMSTI. If you have any questions or concerns you may e-mail me at BarbaraBoyles@gsboe.net or call the school and I will return your call.
Sincerely,
Barbara Boyles
