Thursday: We will begin our study of WWII. Students will work in small groups to learn vocabulary using a researched based strategy. Students will use art and writing to explain to others the meaning of key terms and names from WWII.
Friday- I will show footage from WWII from a documentary called "The Century: America's Time." Some of the images of the Holocaust can be somewhat disturbing but i feel they are a valuable learning tool. Please send notice if you do not want your child to watch.

Tuesday: Students will take test because of school cancellation on Friday. Students in 1st and 2nd period will watch film on the 1920s. It is called "Boom to Bust."
Wednesday: Students will watch a clip from Cinderella Man to spark interest in the Great Depression. Students will then work in groups on key terms from the Great Depression. They will then present to groups and class.
Thursday: I will lead students in guided discussion to analyze the causes of the Great Depression. and the Stock Market Crash. We will also look at our government's response to the crisis and see how this led to the election of Roosevelt in 1932.
Friday- We will study in small groups the actions that the Roosevelt administration took at the beginning of the Great Depression.

Friday- Students will be back in the classroom and we will doing a research based activity called meet and teach. Students will learn a specific area of text on Progressivism and teach their classmates what they have learned.

Monday: Students will complete a summary activity after critically reading about new immigrants and Ellis Island.
Tuesday: Students will complete in groups drawings and summaries about new immigrants, skyscrapers, subways, and automobiles in the United States.
Wednesday: Students will concentrate their studies on civil rights at the turn of the 18th century. We will examine women and minorities treatment during this time. Student will write an essay on what it would be like to be in that time period.

Wednesday: Students will go to multi purpose room to view a video clip about the Holocaust and work on word webs for America's involvement in WWII. Cooperative Learning
Thursday: Students will go back to mulitpurpose room to view clip on D-Day. Students will again work on word webs for the war in Europe.
Friday: Students will go back to re gular classroom and finish study on America's war with Japan. We will also discuss the legacy of the war.

SAT Objectives: Analyze the role of labor unions, Recognize the difference between public and private property, understand opportunity cost, recognize consumers and producers, supply and demand, Analyze the role of government in the economy, associate a natural resource with a product, analyze factors that influence salaries.
Monday: Students will get a review for an exam that will take place after spring break. It has important information on it that pertains to several objectives for the SAT.
Tuesday: Students will critically read about opportunity cost and perform exercises that will help them learn the concept. Students will also discuss supply, demand, goods, services, public, and private sector.
Wednesday: Students will critically read about the role of government when it comes to regulating our economy. Students will see how out government can effect our job market. Students will also discuss our natural resources that help fuel our economy. They will associate a natural resource with a product.
Thursday: Students will look at and discuss the differences between the public and private sector of society. They will be able to identify what is a public enterprise (School, Library, Post Office, Park) and and private enterprise (Wal Mart, Belk, Sears, Best Buy). Students will then further critically read about natural resources.
Friday: Students will view a slide show and take notes on the factors that influence salaries. We will also discuss labor unions. We will read from page 40 in our text book to see how it pertains to US History.
2/23-27
SAT Objectives: Patriotic Symbols, Levels of Government, How our government officials are elected, How Historians Learn about the Past, and the Columbian Exchange, and ploitical documents. Student will also use maps, charts, and other tools that will be important on the SAT.
Monday- Students will examine and learn about important political documents.
Tuesday- Students will be tested on the writing assessment in 1st and second period. The rest of my classes will view a film on WWII. Our focus will be on the Japanese front of WWII.
Wednesday-1st and 2nd testing. The rest of my classes will be reading and discussing current events. One topic will be out economic crisis and unemployment rate. Students will also read about upcoming technology and about the horrifying situation in Zimbabwe.
Thursday-1st and 2nd Testing. Student will continue to study current events. The main topic will be closing of a terrorist prison facility by President Obama.
Friday- Students will see various types of charts, maps, and graphs that they could encounter on the SAT. (RBS) students will work together as a group to try to decipher the more difficult challenges.

Thursday-Students will view a video on the Cold War. Many students will be absent because of basketball games.

Tuesday-(RBS) Election Day. Students will take an detailed look at the office of president. They will learn requirements and responsibilities of our president as a group activity.

Wednesday- (RBS) KWL Students will look at the western wars with Native Americans and some famous leaders.
Thursday- (RBS) Students will learn about some cowboy legends and cowgirl legends and write about them in a GIST Assignment.
Friday- I would like to reserve the computer lab if possible and students will make a power-point presentation and e-mail it to at ahampton@gcboe.net .

Monday- Last week the computer lab was taken so we began to study states and capitals west of the Mississippi River in class. Test will be on Friday. We will go to the computer lab and begin to look at geographical features in the Western United States. Students will google and specified geographic locations and record important information for each location.
Tuesday- Continue Monday's lesson.
Wednesday- Students will need to bring colored pencils to class and we will be working on a map of the United States west of the Mississippi River complete with capitals and certain geographic locations.
Thursday- Review day for students to study States and capital test and test on Geographic locations for Friday. Students will have to tell me what they know from about each location.
Friday- Test day. Notebooks will be looked at but not taken up the first time for grades. I will use this day if time permits or Monday to go over what I expect on notebook checks.

Monday- Students need to bring textbook form and I will assign students a textbook. Students will finish working on their goals for the class and their goal essay. Students will begin to work on a map of the United States West of the Mississippi River.
Tuesday- Go over Textbook and the resources that will be used in the class. Student will receive a Reading Study Guide that they need to keep up with all year. I will begin to preview the Old West.
Wednesday- RBS-Students will go into the Multi-purpose room to view a clip from the movie Far and Away. Students will fill out a handout about the Old West that will let me know what they already know about the West and what they want to know.
Thursday- RBS Students will go to computer lab to research Western States. They will be asked to find out capital cities, find out information about geographical features. Students will be tested on state capitals and geographical features next week. Please study!!!

They will also be asked how this knowledge can help them when they watch news in today's world. Show students an interactive map of the Korean War. Students will be expected to draw and label a map of the Korean War from its beginning stages until the end.
Wednesday- I am going to use Alabama Discovery to show a video clip of some Civil Rights marches in Alabama. We will discuss as a class some injustices that occurred during the 50's and students will read from a Historical reader civil rights participants accounts of the movement and write about what they learned.
Thursday- RBS We will continue to look at the Civil Rights but we are going to focus on Kennedy and Johnson. I will show clips of speeches made by both men. Students will discuss with the class what those speeches meant and why they were made. Students will then write and share within their group their findings. 50's week will start next week on Monday. Students will be given sheets about what they will need to bring on Tuesday. They can dress up and will be encouraged to do so as long as they are in dress code. They will also be encouraged to bring some 50's music on CD and a unique toy or gadget from that era. They will be asked to explain what they brought and why.
Friday- I will be absent. I am leaving a substitue a lesson that furthers their knowledge of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War.

Monday: Miners, Ranchers, and Cowhands C5 Sec 1:( At the beginning of class, we are actually going to be looking at goals, it may take all period)If it does, then this lesson will be on Tuesday. Books will also go out, I will try not to send home a book on the same day as other teachers. So bear with me on this first full week). Following Friday’s preview lesson, we start with our content. We will be looking at the Old West. I am going to show a clip from a movie called Lonesome Dove. It will show buffalo, which will be of topic. It will also show the terrain of the Great Plains. Students will answer questions throughout the period. Students will have an assessment at the end of the period. Terms will be assigned but should be able to finish at school.
Tuesday: Native American Plight C 5 Sec 2: I will give review out either Tuesday or Wednesday. I will show the students images of famous people of the Old West. The students will then be led through a review of yesterday’s content through drill and response. The new information will be presented through power-point presentation and guided discussion. Terms will be assigned.
Wednesday: How they Lived c 5 sec 3:This will be there first experience with cooperative learning. The 15 minutes of review from the two previous days will occur. Students will be broken into small groups of three. They will be given a set of questions. They will then work as a group to answer these questions. I will be monitoring to make sure they are on task. At the end of the period, we will go over these questions and possibly take a quiz. Terms will be assigned.
Thursday: C5 sec 4: Farming and Populism Students will have a bell-ringer that has to do with economics. We will cover this reading with interactive reading and guided lecture. They will have their initial exposure to a political cartoon. Assessment will be given and terms will be assigned
Friday: Notebook Check and Take up(50 points) This will be our First Review Game. It is a cooperative learning assignment it is usually like a game show. Test will be Tuesday of next week. Students will need to bring reviews to Monday’s class.

Date: 8/20-24 We got a little off of schedule last week so we bumped some lessons back. I hope the kids are enjoying class and learning more about our past. When a child misses, please tell them to ask to see a classmates notebook so they can copy the notes or get assignments. Plans are tentative but are generally what we do.

SAT Objectives: This week, through bellringers, we are going cover SAT objectives: Content Cluster- History and Geography Standard- Identify an important action of a president. We are also going to identify intermediate direction as well with other map skills. Bell-ringers are always test material. It is a good idea to ask students about the presidents that were part of their bellringer on Monday through Thursday. On Friday or Monday of Next Week we will be looking at supply and demand.

Monday: We will begin our study of the Industrial Revolution with a lesson titled The Growth of Industry. I will use a powerpoint presentation and a brief quiz at the end of the period to internalize content. At the beginning of the period, I will quiz them on their bell ringers. Sorry for the inconvenience for Friday, but I was needed elsewhere. I will also take up notebooks. I will begin to start having grades in grade book this week. I was gong to enter some 2-nite but forgot my key to the test at school.
Tuesday: Lesson: Railroads Change the Country. Interactive Lecture and Drill and Response Students will answer a discussion question (ARI strategy) at the end of the period as their guided practice.
Wednesday: The Rise of Big Bussiness. After Partner Reading this section, student will then partner read two Resources. Students will answer discussion questions on this topic.
Thursday: Workers Organize: Power-Point Presentation Students will answer some questions individually and they will need to finish at home if not at school. All materials will be kept in notebook and turned in on Friday.
Friday: NB Takeup and a lesson on Supply and Demand Economics. Test will be Tuesday. Review Day Monday.

Tuesday: Test and Notebook Check will be Friday. Every student will have a review by Wednesday. Students will answer a series of questions from the board about The Rise of Big Bussiness. Students will work well with a partner and come up with best possible ansers to each question. Students that are absent will need to get questions from a buddy.
Wednesday: Students will be introduced to the content on Wednesday and then students will be taught using an ARI strategy called Tea Party. We will be covering Labor Unions. Each Groups papers will be taken up at the end of the period.

Monday: Students will begin a study of the Changes In American Life. On this day, students will look at the Growth of Cities and how they changed. Students will perform a Fact Fib assignment and will graded by their participation and work. A quiz will be given at the end of the period.
Tuesday:Notebook Check will be Friday. Test will be nest Tuesday. Students will have a review by Friday. On Tuesday students will do a critical reading assignment. The lesson will draw on prior knowledge and post knowledge of Immigration. It will be a cooperative learning assignment. A group will be assigned a section to read. I will model how for students to read critically. Students will then be asked to summarize their section as a group. Each group will present their section to the class. I will facilitate and lead a class discussion. A breif quiz at the end of the period.
Wednesday: I will guide students in an interactive lecture lesson. Students will need to take notes and will be held responsble for those notes. Again a quiz will be administered.
Thursday: Society and Mass Culture. Student will be given an opportunity to write in their best grammar about their favorite leisure time activity. They will be able to talk about music, sports, and anything they might enjoy doing. This will lead to discussion of the availability of leisure time. We will talk about shorter work hours and how this increased the amount of time Americans had for leisure. We will also discuss how our economy is moving more to entertainment because of our love for leisure.
Friday: NB Takeup and Ms. Power will be doing a health lesson in my room.
